Welcome to Oogiya

Oogiya is a hotel in a famous spring and castle town. We are located in the “little Kyoto” of Echizen Ono in Hokuriku. Out hotel has a calm appearance with the remaining vestiges of a samurai residence. We serve cuisine representative of Echizen made with local ingredients. In addition, the protected Itoyo (three-spined stickleback) species lives in the Japanese garden of our hotel. We cherish the spirit of “once-in-a-lifetime” encounters and are waiting for you with the hospitality of the season.

Cuisine

Famous Spring: Water of Life

Our hotel is located near to Oshozu – selected as one of the 100 most famous springs in Japan. We believe that water is not just a part of cuisine; we think of it as the origin of everything.
If the water tastes good, the rice will taste good. If the water tastes good, the sake will taste good. If the water tastes good, the soy sauce will also taste good.

Specialty of Echizen Ono

Taro has been grown in the Okuetsu district centered on the cities of Ono and Katsuyama – a land with a famous spring – since ancient times. In particular, taro grown in the Kamisho district are called Kamisho taro. They are highly rated for having firmness, for not falling apart when cooked and for having a unique sweetness.
